Grand Falls town council is considering removing a fixture at one of its tourist centres after complaints that it's disrespectful to Indigenous communities, but the mayor doesn't think it is racist.
The town received two complaints over the summer from visitors about a life-size cut-out of an Indigenous woman set up at the Malabeam Tourist Information Centre overlooking the falls and gorge, said Grand Falls Mayor Marcel Deschênes. After being refused a refund while trying to return a pair of pants in September, a Moncton man made a dramatic statement on the store's policy.
